A comprehensive national policy scan of U.S. secondary school policies related to expectant and parenting youth to assess how the education system promotes or undermines young parents’ well-being. Guided by reproductive justice principles of autonomy, intersectionality and structural accountability, qualitative content analysis will identify explicit and implicit messages about young parents’ rights, responsibilities, and access to support. Findings will inform the development of a publicly accessible Policy Hub and serve as baseline data for future mixed-methods and policy-intervention studies that explore policy implementation and its impact on young parents’ educational and overall well-being.

The adaptation of a validated measure of flourishing (Instrument Flourishing Adolescent Scale, I-FAS) that can be used with youth in diverse settings. The project includes developing and testing the measure among Black U.S. youth living in metro Detroit and Indonesian youth ages 12 to 19 currently enrolled in school. The findings will provide a new measure and outcome of interest - one that moves toward strengths and assets. In addition, the global partnership will provide cross-cultural insights, and opportunities to develop interventions or action-based strategies that not only have local, but global impact for adolescents.
